Lindsey Mehall receives Ronnie L. Edwards Graduate Student Teaching Award

COLLEGE STATION – Lindsey Mehall was one of three graduate students in the Department of Animal Science who were recipients of the 2013 Ronnie L. Edwards Graduate Teaching Award, in recognition of their important contributions as graduate students to the undergraduate student experience. Beef 101 dates announced for 2016

Beef 101 is a three-day intensive hands-on program designed for anyone who has an interest in expanding their knowledge of the total beef industry. Rollstock packaging machine is the newest addition to the Rosenthal Meat Center

The Rosenthal Meat Center has increased its ability to teach packaging technologies through the recent addition of a fully automated Rollstock Packaging Machine. The Rollstock machine is a state-of-the-art packaging system that will vacuum package all types of products. The machine was donated by Texas Meat Purveyors (a division of Freedman Foodservice, LP) in San Antonio, Texas through their General Manager, Dwayne Padalecki. Aggies named to All American Meat Judging Team

Three members of the Meat Judging Team, Mallorie Phelps, Jessie Hoffman and James Boyd Vaughan, were named to the 2013 All American Meat Judging Team during the International Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest held Nov. 17 at Tyson Foods in Dakota City, Neb. Gill provides expertise on the use of bacteriophages in China

In November, Jason Gill visited the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences (JAAS), located in Nanjing, China. He was invited and hosted by Dr. Ran Wang, who leads a research group in the JAAS Institute of Food Safety focusing on the safety of animal-derived foods. Dr. Wang’s group has recently become interested in the use of bacteriophages – the viruses that infect bacteria – for the control and detection of pathogenic bacteria in food animal systems, and invited Dr. Gill to consult as an expert in this area. Stephen B. I began teaching ANSC 437, “Marketing and Grading in Livestock and Meat,” in the fall of 2002.
