FFA/4-H Meat Judging Clinic held at Rosenthal Meat Center, March 29, 2014
The Department of Animal Science hosted the FFA/4-H Meat Judging Clinic, which was held at the Rosenthal Meat Center on Saturday, March 29, 2014. Over 300 FFA and 4-H youth participated in the clinic this year where they had the opportunity to hone their meat judging skills in preparation for upcoming contests this spring. Turner receives NAMA Scholarship Foundation Grant, Bush Presidential Library Undergraduate Travel Grant
Lindsey Turner, an undergraduate student in the Department of Animal Science, Texas A&M University, received a scholarship grant from the NAMA Scholarship Foundation in the amount of $2,250 at the Annual Convention of the North American Meat Association held March 19-22, 2014 in Palm Springs, Calif. In addition to the scholarship, she received a $500 travel grant from the association to attend the convention where she assisted with several activities as a way to network with key meat industry leaders. Beef fit for a Queen…literally!
I am spending two weeks traveling through England learning more about its production, marketing, merchandising, and sustainability programs for the meat industry. One great tour was of Aubrey Allen, one of the top-end butchers here in the United Kingdom, and most importantly, the butcher who received the Royal Warrant to Her Majesty The Queen, as suppliers of meat, poultry, and game. Savell named university distinguished professor
COLLEGE STATION — Dr. Jeffrey Savell, a faculty member in the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University, was recently named university distinguished professor. The title, which is bestowed in perpetuity, is one of the highest honors given to Texas A&M University System faculty. Savell is a Regents Professor and E.M. “Manny” Rosenthal Chairholder in the Department of Animal Science and holder of the Cintron University Professorship in Undergraduate Teaching Excellence.
