COLLEGE STATION – Dr. Dan Hale, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service meat specialist and professor in the department of animal science at Texas A&M University, has been selected to receive a 2014 Distinguished Achievement Award for Extension, Outreach, Continuing Education and Professional Development.
The award is given by Texas A&M and The Association of Former Students, which selected 24 outstanding members of the school’s faculty and staff to be honored with 2014 Distinguished Achievement Awards. The university-level Distinguished Achievement Awards were first presented in 1955 and have since been awarded to 978 professionals – including this year’s recipients – who have exhibited the highest standards of excellence at Texas A&M.

The 2014 Distinguished Achievement Awards will be presented at 1:30 p.m. April 28 during ceremonies in Rudder Theatre on the Texas A&M campus in College Station. In recognition of their achievements, each recipient will receive a cash gift, an engraved watch and a commemorative plaque.
Hale received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in animal science from Kansas State University and a doctorate in food, nutrition and institutional sciences from Oklahoma State University. He joined the faculty of AgriLife Extension Service in 1985 as a meat specialist.
Hale delivers and interprets information on diet and health, food safety, livestock growth, animal welfare, livestock management, and meat science. His educational programs and resources include hands-on seminars and online videos that engage consumers, youth and 4-H members, health professionals, retailers, food service managers, packers, processors, and livestock producers across the nation, according to award nomination information.
