GSF/McDonald’s Specialized Beef 101 at Texas A&M

At the request of Golden State Foods, Texas A&M Department of Animal Science and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Hosted a specialized Beef 101 program for members of the McDonald’s Corporation and their beef suppliers on August 15-17.  Dr. Wayne Morgan, President of Protein Products for Golden State Foods collaborated with Dr. Davey Griffin, professor and Extension Meat Specialist to coordinate the event with a schedule designed to help participants get a snapshot of the beef industry from start to finish. A number of undergraduate and graduate students from the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University participated in the Southwest Meat Association Annual Convention and Suppliers Showcase held at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, Texas, July 19 to 22, 2017. The Fightin’ Texas Aggie Meat Judging Team Reunion was held May 6-7, 2016 on the campus of Texas A&M University. Former and current team members along with families and friends attended a weekend of fun, fellowship, and fundraising. Texas A&M hosts workout for meat judging teams

The Rosenthal Meat Center hosted its annual workout on Friday, March 4, 2016 ahead of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest. This practice is an annual activity, and the Rosenthal Meat Center has hosted this workout as one of the longest running activities in its history. Riley receives Vice Chancellor Award in Excellence

Ray Riley ’79, manager of the Rosenthal Meat Center and longtime member of the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University, received the Vice Chancellor’s Award in Excellence for Technical and Programmatic Staff for 2015 at a ceremony at the AgriLife Center on January 14, 2016. Beef 101 is a three-day intensive hands-on program designed for anyone who has an interest in expanding their knowledge of the total beef industry.
