GSF/McDonald’s Specialized Beef 101 at Texas A&M

At the request of Golden State Foods, Texas A&M Department of Animal Science and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Hosted a specialized Beef 101 program for members of the McDonald’s Corporation and their beef suppliers on August 15-17.  Dr. Wayne Morgan, President of Protein Products for Golden State Foods collaborated with Dr. Davey Griffin, professor and Extension Meat Specialist to coordinate the event with a schedule designed to help participants get a snapshot of the beef industry from start to finish. Texas Association of Meat Processors 31st Annual Convention

The Texas Association of Meat Processors (TAMP) held their 31st annual convention in College Station, August 10-12, 2017.  TAMP members are primarily the small and very small meat plants around Texas and their associated suppliers. Dr. Davey Griffin, professor and Extension Meat Specialist serves as the director of the association through a cooperative agreement with the Department of Animal Science and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Students participate in Southwest Meat Association Annual Convention

A number of undergraduate and graduate students from the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University participated in the Southwest Meat Association Annual Convention and Suppliers Showcase held at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, Texas, July 19 to 22, 2017. Students receive Bob Ondrusek Memorial, SMA Hall of Honor, and SMA Foundation Scholarships

Twenty-one students from Texas A&M University were the beneficiaries of three different scholarships presented by the Southwest Meat Association at its annual convention: the Bob Ondrusek Memorial Scholarship, the SMA Hall of Honor Scholarship, and the SMA Foundation Scholarship. Meat Science Quiz Bowl Team competes at Reciprocal Meat Conference in San Angelo, Texas

The Texas A&M University Quiz Bowl Team competed at the American Meat Science Association Reciprocal Meat Conference at the Angelo State University, San Angelo, Texas on Sunday, June 19, 2016. Two four-member teams went deep in the double-elimination tournament before they were eliminated. The team was selected in May from a group of students who  first attended a Quiz Bowl information meeting in January, 2016. The 2015 Texas A&M University Meat Judging Team recently returned from the 2015 Eastern National Meat Judging Contest held in Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, hosted by Cargill Meat Solutions. The 59th Annual Convention of the Southwest Meat Association was held at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa, July 22-25, 2015, and several Meat Science faculty and students were in attendance making new connections or reconnecting with meat industry leaders, helping with the convention, or receiving scholarships including the Bob Ondrusek Memorial Scholarship, the SMIKids Scholarship, and the SMA Foundation Graduate Scholarship.
