Texas Association of Meat Processors 31st Annual Convention

The Texas Association of Meat Processors (TAMP) held their 31st annual convention in College Station, August 10-12, 2017.  TAMP members are primarily the small and very small meat plants around Texas and their associated suppliers. Dr. Davey Griffin, professor and Extension Meat Specialist serves as the director of the association through a cooperative agreement with the Department of Animal Science and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Aggie faculty contribute to Lawrie’s Meat Science, 8th edition

Three faculty members in the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University provided chapters to the newly revised, Lawrie’s Meat Science, Eighth edition. Rhonda Miller, Kerri Gehring, and Jeff Savell each wrote chapters working with Dr. Fidel Toldrá, the editor of this edition, to complete the publication process. Professor Ralston Lawrie was a world-renown meat scientist and wrote multiple editions of “Meat Science” during his life. The 2016 dates for Introductory HACCP Course and Beyond Basics: HACCP Plan Improvement Workshop have been set. All courses are taught in the Kleberg Center on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas by Kerri Gehring and Jeff Savell from the Department of Animal Science . Gehring to receive Association of Former Students teaching award

Dr. Kerri Gehring, associate professor of animal science and president of the International HACCP Alliance, has been selected as one of the three recipients of the 2014 Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award for Teaching at the College Level. Papers presented at ICoMST 2014 in Punta Del Este, Uruguay

Kerri Gehring, Ashley Arnold, Clay Eastwood, and Jeff Savell participated in and presented papers at the 60th International Congress of Meat Science and Technology (ICoMST), which was held in Punta Del Este, Uruguay on August 17-22, 2014. Gehring and Savell presented their papers during the oral sessions, and Arnold and Eastwood presented their papers during the poster sessions. Graduate students compete/present at Reciprocal Meat Conference poster session

Seven Meat Science graduate students presented their research work at the poster session of the American Meat Science Association Reciprocal Meat Conference held in Madison, Wisconsin, June 15-18, 2014. Two graduate students, Rachel Glascock and Clay Eastwood, participated in the Poster Competition.
