Scholarship established in memory of long-time Rosenthal Meat Center employee, Don “Pudge” Palmer ’81

Don “Pudge” Palmer ’81, a long-time employee of the Rosenthal Meat Center, passed away March 31, 2015 after a brief illness. He will be missed by all. Don lived a servant’s life where he loved teaching and helping others. He truly cared for students and helped them in whatever they needed done. Don loved to tailgate during football season at the Rosenthal Meat Center, and he always was preparing food for the meat judging team workouts throughout the fall and spring. Two long-term fixtures of the Rosenthal Meat Center, Ray Riley and the nationally recognized Texas Aggie Brand Beef Jerky, were featured on the CBS Sunday Morning program on January 18, 2015. The second annual Aggie Commercial Steer Camp was held at the Rosenthal Meat Center on July 28-29, 2014 at Texas A&M University. Beef 101 workshop for June 24-26, 2014 completed

The second Beef 101 of the year was completed on June 24-26, 2014. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Beef 101, and another full crowd was in attendance. FFA/4-H Meat Judging Clinic held at Rosenthal Meat Center, March 29, 2014

The Department of Animal Science hosted the FFA/4-H Meat Judging Clinic, which was held at the Rosenthal Meat Center on Saturday, March 29, 2014. Over 300 FFA and 4-H youth participated in the clinic this year where they had the opportunity to hone their meat judging skills in preparation for upcoming contests this spring. Voegele receives NAMA Scholarship Foundation Grant, Bush Presidential Library Undergraduate Travel Grant

Hope Voegele, an undergraduate student in the Department of Animal Science, Texas A&M University, received a scholarship grant from the NAMA Scholarship Foundation in the amount of $2,250 at the Annual Convention of the North American Meat Association held March 19-22, 2014 in Palm Springs, Calif. In addition to the scholarship, she received a $500 travel grant from the association to attend the convention where she assisted with several activities as a way to network with key meat industry leaders. Beef 101 is a three-day intensive hands-on program designed for anyone who has an interest in expanding their knowledge of the total beef industry. This workshop has become known as the leading educational program for basic information about the beef industry provided anywhere in the United States.
