Dr. Temple Grandin, professor of animal science at Colorado State University, noted animal handling, behavior, and welfare specialist, and an inspiration and champion for those who are autistic, visited the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University, from October 22-26, 2017. Texas Association of Meat Processors 31st Annual Convention

The Texas Association of Meat Processors (TAMP) held their 31st annual convention in College Station, August 10-12, 2017.  TAMP members are primarily the small and very small meat plants around Texas and their associated suppliers. Dr. Davey Griffin, professor and Extension Meat Specialist serves as the director of the association through a cooperative agreement with the Department of Animal Science and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Students participate in Southwest Meat Association Annual Convention

A number of undergraduate and graduate students from the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University participated in the Southwest Meat Association Annual Convention and Suppliers Showcase held at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, Texas, July 19 to 22, 2017. The Fightin’ Texas Aggie Meat Judging Team Reunion was held May 6-7, 2016 on the campus of Texas A&M University. Former and current team members along with families and friends attended a weekend of fun, fellowship, and fundraising. Beef 101 dates announced for 2016

Beef 101 is a three-day intensive hands-on program designed for anyone who has an interest in expanding their knowledge of the total beef industry. This workshop has been conducted since 1989 and has become known as the leading educational program for basic information about the beef industry provided anywhere in the United States. The 2015 Texas A&M University Meat Judging Team recently returned from the 2015 Eastern National Meat Judging Contest held in Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, hosted by Cargill Meat Solutions. The 2015 Aggie Commercial Steer Camp was held on the campus of Texas A&M University on July 27-28, 2015. Meat Science faculty and students participate in SMA Convention, 2015

The 59th Annual Convention of the Southwest Meat Association was held at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa, July 22-25, 2015, and several Meat Science faculty and students were in attendance making new connections or reconnecting with meat industry leaders, helping with the convention, or receiving scholarships including the Bob Ondrusek Memorial Scholarship, the SMIKids Scholarship, and the SMA Foundation Graduate Scholarship.
