GSF/McDonald’s Specialized Beef 101 at Texas A&M

At the request of Golden State Foods, Texas A&M Department of Animal Science and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Hosted a specialized Beef 101 program for members of the McDonald’s Corporation and their beef suppliers on August 15-17.  Dr. Wayne Morgan, President of Protein Products for Golden State Foods collaborated with Dr. Davey Griffin, professor and Extension Meat Specialist to coordinate the event with a schedule designed to help participants get a snapshot of the beef industry from start to finish. 2015 Aggie Commercial Steer Camp held July 27-28, 2015

The 2015 Aggie Commercial Steer Camp was held on the campus of Texas A&M University on July 27-28, 2015. The camp was hosted by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and the Department of Animal Science and sponsored by The Texas Beef Council, San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo®, and Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. 25th anniversary of Beef 101 kicks off with May class

The first Beef 101 was held at Texas A&M University in 1989 at the request of the Texas Beef Council to help its staff better understand the product that it was responsible to market. Word spread about the program, and beef council staff from other states requested that another program be held the next year. I began teaching ANSC 437, “Marketing and Grading in Livestock and Meat,” in the fall of 2002. Beef Sustainability 101 was held on July 9-10, 2013 at the request of McDonald’s Corporation and some of its suppliers to help key members of the McDonald’s Corporation beef supply chain better understand beef production, processing, value, and sustainability.
