Meat Science Quiz Bowl Team competes at Reciprocal Meat Conference in Madison, Wisconsin

The Texas A&M University Quiz Bowl Team competed at the American Meat Science Association Reciprocal Meat Conference at Madison, Wisconsin on Sunday, June 15, 2014. Two four-member teams went deep in the double-elimination tournament before they were eliminated. In true 12th Man tradition, Emily Mahalitc joined the Ohio State University team to help them field a four-member team. Spring brings carcass shows

Each spring, Meat Science faculty and students are very busy collecting carcass data from the steers, barrows, and lambs that are shown at major and local shows. San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo and Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo are the two major shows where we collect carcass data with the steers harvested at Sam Kane Beef Processors, the barrows and lambs from Houston harvested at the Rosenthal Meat Center, and the barrows from San Antonio harvested at the Rosenthal Meat Center and the lambs harvested at Texas… Read More →

FFA/4-H Meat Judging Clinic held at Rosenthal Meat Center, March 29, 2014

The Department of Animal Science hosted the FFA/4-H Meat Judging Clinic, which was held at the Rosenthal Meat Center on Saturday, March 29, 2014. Over 300 FFA and 4-H youth participated in the clinic this year where they had the opportunity to hone their meat judging skills in preparation for upcoming contests this spring. Turner receives NAMA Scholarship Foundation Grant, Bush Presidential Library Undergraduate Travel Grant

Lindsey Turner, an undergraduate student in the Department of Animal Science, Texas A&M University, received a scholarship grant from the NAMA Scholarship Foundation in the amount of $2,250 at the Annual Convention of the North American Meat Association held March 19-22, 2014 in Palm Springs, Calif. In addition to the scholarship, she received a $500 travel grant from the association to attend the convention where she assisted with several activities as a way to network with key meat industry leaders. Aggies named to All American Meat Judging Team

Three members of the Meat Judging Team, Mallorie Phelps, Jessie Hoffman and James Boyd Vaughan, were named to the 2013 All American Meat Judging Team during the International Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest held Nov. 17 at Tyson Foods in Dakota City, Neb. Meat Science graduate students gain valuable experiences leading carcass cutting groups

Since the late 1980s, first with Beef 101, then in the 1990s with Beef 706, and then later on with Pork 101, Meat Science graduate students in the Department of Animal Science have gained valuable teaching experiences through their work as cutting instructors for these courses.
